Gala Project
This project for the Chicago Artists Coalition done in class involved multiple pieces of collateral. Shown here are the banner, poster, invitation cover, and invitation inside. The goal was to merge text and image, with the image being a visual representation of sound. To achieve this, I took my flute and put a light at one end, and photographed it through the other end. That brought this unique and colorful visual surrounded by blackness. To make the text play with the imagery, I curved the text around the circle of light, creating a playful visual. The biggest challenge was making the typography stand out from the image. Black type would blend in with the black, but white would merge with the light. A border had to be added to the text to make it stand out enough. As for the inside of the invitation, the color of the image would simply distract from the text, so it was desaturated heavily to ensure readability for the text.
