What Happens Next?

This book was a class project where we had to make a book based off of the emotions from a single color. I chose to go with the color black, and the fear of death. The copy for the book had to be written by me and the images had to be made by myself as well. I mostly pulled from the fairly sizable backlog of photos I have taken that I have collected since 2012. From this backlog I was able to find eerie photos, then edit them to better fit the design I wanted. At a later point, I went over the project again and replaced one of the images with a newer image originally taken for a different project. Despite this, all of the photos in this book were originally taken by me for reasons entirely unrelated to this project, but were able to be edited to work well with this project. With writing being something I am very good at, I was able to write way more material than I would need, so I edited that content down to what was needed. I wanted to focus on the images, and I felt that it would be interesting if the viewer couldn’t tell where the image ended, and the background began. To accomplish this, I would need to have a black background with white text. The beauty of this project is how images work with the background to create an oppressive feeling, with the white text cutting through as if a savior, only to contain its own darkness. This is by far one of my favorite projects, and one I consider to be by far my most successful.
