What He Did To Me
20.5" x 16" Wood block print - 2022
Art can be used to explore complicated, if not dark and serious, emotions, and I fully believe it should be used to explore said emotions. With this piece, I explored my rape, and the feelings and thoughts that came with it. Dark, gruesome, and painful, I put so many feelings into this block. Initially I was just going to do one image in a large format, fully exploring that image in particular. However, I discovered it might be more interesting to explore the cluttered way thoughts flow, and so I plastered the block with several of the images I was considering. This lead to a veritable maze of an image, one with no definitive focal point, where certain parts often get lost in the shuffle as the viewer's eye darts around, trying to make sense of the painful images.
